She was jailed for 10 years in June for publishing anti-state reports, including one about deaths in police custody. Her daughter Nguyen Bao Nguyen, nicknamed “Mushroom”, referred to Trump’s upcoming visit to Vietnam and the “International Women of Courage Award” awarded by the First Lady to Quynh in March, which drew an angry response from Hanoi. “Please help my family re-unite because I know my mother did nothing wrong,” Nguyen wrote in the letter, published on Quynh’s mother’s Facebook Page. “We love our mother so much and just want her to come back to us,” said Nguyen, who turns 11 on Saturday. Vietnam’s government did not immediately respond to a request to comment. “The United States has advocated for Ms. Quynh’s release, and the release of all prisoners of conscience, multiple times with high-level Vietnamese officials in the run-up to the President’s visit to Vietnam – including in recent days and weeks,” U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius told Reuters. Despite sweeping economic reform and increasing openness to social change, media censorship remains tight in Vietnam and criticism of the Communist state is not tolerated. At least 17 dissidents have been arrested this year in a crackdown that followed changes within the ruling party hierarchy and a growing number of environmental protests. Vietnam has carried out a simultaneous crackdown on corruption. Trump is set to attend the APEC forum in the seaside resort of Danang, besides making an official visit to Vietnam. “International donors and trade partners need to step up pressure on the country’s leaders to improve its abysmal rights record, and the APEC summit is a good moment to start,” said Brad Adams, Asia director of Human Rights Watch. Quynh’s mother, Nguyen Tuyet Lan, is now looking after Nguyen and her four-year-old brother “Bear”. Con gái 10 tuổi của tù nhân chính trị Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh vào ngày 26 tháng 10 viết một bức thư đưa lên mạng kêu gọi đệ nhất phu nhân Hoa Kỳ giúp yêu cầu Việt Nam trả tự do cho mẹ cháu.

Bức thư được đưa ra trước chuyến công du của tổng thống Donald Trump và phu nhân đến Việt Nam tham dự hội nghị thượng đỉnh Diễn Đàn Hợp Tác Kinh Tế Châu Á- Thái Bình Dương (APEC) cũng như thăm chính thức Việt Nam.

Bức thư viết tay của cháu Nguyễn Bảo Nguyên, con gái của blogger Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh, nêu rõ là bức thư thứ tư cháu viết gửi đến bà Melanila Trump để nhờ giúp cho gia đình cháu được đoàn tụ. Cháu gái 10 tuổi Nguyễn Bảo Nguyên viết tiếp trong thư là cháu biết mẹ của cháu không làm gì sai và chính bà Melania Trump là người trao giải thưởng ‘Phụ nữ can đảm’ cho mẹ của cháu.

Vào chiều ngày 27 tháng 10, cháu Nguyễn Bảo Nguyên nói với Đài Á Châu Tự Do như sau:

“Con viết lá thư này là để bà Melania Trump can thiệp để cho mẹ về với con”

Hãng tin Reuters vào ngày 27 tháng 10 loan tin về bức thư viết tay của cháu Nguyễn Bảo Nguyên cho biết thêm là có liên lạc với chính phủ Việt Nam và Đại Sứ Quán Hoa Kỳ ở Hà Nội để hỏi thông tin liên quan nhưng chưa nhận được trả lời.

Theo Reuters thì dù Việt Nam tiến hành cải cách kinh tế sâu rộng và ngày càng cởi mở với vấn đề thay đổi xã hội, biện pháp kiểm duyệt truyền thông vẫn nghiêm nhặt và không khoan dung với việc chỉ trích nhà nước cộng sản.

Từ đầu năm đến nay có ít nhất 17 tiếng nói bất đồng bị bắt trong chiến dịch sau khi đảng cộng sản tiến hành những thay đổi trong đội ngũ lãnh đạo cũng như sau khi nhiều cuộc biểu tình phản đối ô nhiễm môi trường diễn ra.

Hội Phụ nữ Âu Cơ kêu gọi trả tự do cho Mẹ Nấm

Tại Hoa Kỳ, Hội Phụ nữ Âu Cơ cũng có thỉnh nguyện thư kêu gọi đệ nhất phu nhân Melania Trump can thiệp với chính quyền Việt Nam trả tự do cho blogger Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh.

Theo thông cáo báo chí của Hội Phụ Nữ Âu Cơ đưa ra ngày 25 tháng 10 vừa qua thì bà Melania Trump là người từng vinh danh và trao giải thưởng Phụ Nữ Can Đảm Quốc tế cho blogger Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh vào tháng 3 vừa qua.

Hội Phụ Nữ Âu Cơ trình bày trong Thỉnh Nguyện Thư gửi cho bà Melania Trump rằng blogger Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh bị truy tố theo điều 88 Bộ Luật Hình sự Việt Nam với bản án 10 năm tù giam. Điều 88 vi hiến ngay cả chiếu theo Hiến Pháp năm 2013 của Việt Nam.

Thỉnh nguyện thư của Hội Phụ nữ Âu Cơ nêu rõ việc can thiệp từ đệ nhất phu nhân Hoa Kỳ Melania Trump giúp trả tự do cho blogger Mẹ Nấm- Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh là để gia đình được sum họp.

Reuters - The 10-year-old daughter of a jailed Vietnamese blogger, “Mother Mushroom”, has appealed to U.S. First Lady Melania Trump to help win her mother’s release ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam next month.
